ono
Grant started his musical career more than 20 years ago, making
his early mark as
a composer, producer and performer with a multitude of bands
including the eccentric jazz/lounge outfit “Jaymz Bee and The
Royal Jelly Orchestra”, Pop-poet “John Southworth” and the
outrageous bebop-rappers “The Shuffle Demons”.
Since then, Jono has built a diverse portfolio of work that spans many genres and all forms of media. He is best-known today for his TV work, having scored more than 300 episodes for numerous series, including Teletoon/MTV's "Undergrads", Family Channel's “Radio Free Roscoe” and YTV's “Captain Flamingo”, which earned a 2006 Gemini nomination for best original score in an animated series. He is also a respected film composer, earning a Genie nomination in 2000 for his first score, "Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang”, and following up with a variety of feature projects that include composing additional music for the CBC bio-pic "Trudeau" and ABC's "Trump: The Unauthorized Biography". Most recently, Jono composed and produced the soundtrack for the new animated series "The Dating Guy" on Teletoon and composed underscore for Sony PlayStation's 2010 hit video-game "Modnation Racers”. Jono works mainly out of his personal studio, Victory Drive Recording, located in Toronto's Leslieville. Featuring state-of-the-art equipment and an abundant collection of eclectic and vintage instruments (a multi-instrumentalist, Jono often performs the scores he writes and produces); Victory Drive is a destination for performing artists as well as film and television producers. Among those artists is Toronto-based jazz composer and saxophonist Richard Underhill, with whom Jono has co-produced three albums, including Underhill's Juno award-winning "Tales from the Blue Lounge”. Jono has also worked in various capacities with a diverse roster of talents, including Kim Stockwood, Big Rude Jake, The Tea Party and many others. Jono studied composition, harmony and music theory privately with teacher/music analyst Michael Leibson and is well versed in writing and arranging for all types of music and ensembles. From old-school tape-and-razor blade editing to the latest techniques in modern sound design, Jono is skilled in all forms of music production. And when he’s not at work,
you might find Jono
